The poetry projects you see here were created by Boston University students in Carrie Bennett’s Poetry Now: Documentary Poetry during the Spring 2018 semester. Students used documentary poetry works by Maggie Nelson, Mark Nowak, Monica Ong, and Claudia Rankine as inspiration for their own projects, on such topics as racism, rape culture, and identity. Students built upon the research they had done for scholarly papers earlier in the semester. Quite striking is how many students took a multimodal approach, incorporating visuals and found objects, to reflect the complexity of the questions their projects ask.
